GCSE Results Day - 12th August 2021

Posted on: August 12th 2021

We are delighted to be able to celebrate some wonderful performances by our Year 11 students in both GCSE and vocational qualifications! As with every year, there have been some truly outstanding individual achievements by our remarkable students, all of whom have had to overcome the huge disruption caused by lockdown and the various restrictions of operating a school even when students were allowed back. We recognise that some students have had significant challenges to overcome beyond school, often exacerbated by the pandemic, but there are real reasons to be delighted with their outcomes as well as those academic high flyers who have done incredibly well. In all cases, the lack of exams this year has meant that results were based on work that had been done over the past two years and with the rigour of our monitoring and validating of grades processes, we can see that student outcomes this year are a fair and accurate reflection of their hard work and ability.

Particular mention must go to the following students whose average grade was 8 plus:

Nikhil Mithani

Hannah Fry

Alexander Stares

Jack Anastasi

Faraaz Arshad

Lucia Maestri

Vicky wang

Jae Lai

Frederick Plewes

Aoife Dann

Maya Schulze

Harvey Garside

Jessica Skapoullou

Olivia Tann

This year, following the cancellation of exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards. The government is not publishing performance data for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic.

Martin Lavelle, Headteacher of Southgate School said: “It is always a privilege to be Headteacher of this wonderful school, but when I reflect on the way that our young people and wider school community worked together to overcome such adversity as we have witnessed these past two years, I am immensely proud. The grades achieved by Southgate students in 2021 were a fair and honest reflection of the work that they have put in over the past two years. This cohort did so well because they are motivated and industrious young people, who should give all of us hope for the future.”
