6th Form

6th Form Application Information

Internal students should ensure they pick up a 6th form letter on results day.  This will provide further information about whether you have met the grade criteria or not.  Please respond accordingly to this letter.  If you have to attend an interview then these will be taking place on Wednesday 30th August.

External student registrations will take place on Thursday 24th August (10am to 2pm) and Friday 25th August (9am to 12pm).  On these days we will only see students who have previously been sent offers.  Any other external students are welcome to apply at this time but must submit an application form (available here) first and also provide a reference from your current school.  We will not see any candidates until we have had time to check application forms and references.  These forms can be dropped off into our reception area.  We will contact applicants by Thursday 31st August based on whether we have space available on courses.  If you do not hear from us by that date then it is likely that we are full.

Southgate School has one of the largest sixth forms in Enfield and North London.  The sixth form at Southgate School is an exciting and vibrant place to be where challenging academic work goes hand in hand with opportunities to develop as young people, lead others and help the school and wider community.

We offer a wide range of traditional A level subjects and have the flexibility to meet the needs of as many students as possible.  A Levels provide a traditional academic route.  We also offer Vocational courses for our students.  Both routes are suitable preparation for university entry.

Many of our Year 11 students stay on into our sixth form.  We have an exciting induction programme and all students take part in some form of voluntary enrichment.  Students are encouraged to consider their future destinations and we have a high quality Higher Education programme.  Over 80% of our students continue into Higher Education.  We send a number of students to some of the top universities in the country.  There is also a programme to help students who want to follow a non-HE route and we take pride in the fact that all of our students leave here with a place at a university, college, apprenticeship or in employment.

Enrichment activities include:

  • Student leadership team.

  • Charity work.

  • Peer mentoring.

  • Community work (YAVE).

  • Debating club.

  • Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Award.

  • Sports teams.

  • Drama & Music activities.

  • Volunteer work in Vietnam

Students are placed into tutor groups and stay with their tutor for the 2 years they are in the sixth form.  Their tutor takes a special interest in the progress of each student and will have an in depth knowledge of their students.  Tutors will hold whole group tutorial sessions and work on raising achievement.  We have built in regular times for reviews and formal assessment so that students and parents are informed of progress. Regular assemblies allow the opportunity for all students to gather and listen to themed assemblies aimed at improving achievement and raising awareness of important issues.

We have a brand new, state of the art Sixth Form Study Centre for the use of all students.  This provides a quiet environment in which to study.

We are proud of the academic success of our students.  We consistently gain excellent results on our post-16 courses.  We rigorously monitor the progress of all students to ensure they achieve.  Our value added scores show that we support our students to reach their full potential.  We are proud of our students who leave as confident, successful and responsible young people.
