Brilliant Club

The Scholars Programme

AT SOUTHGATE SCHOOL WE ARE PROUD TO TAKE PART IN THE BRILLIANT CLUB – EACH ACADEMIC YEAR WE AIM TO PROVIDE THIS FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY TO STUDENTS IN YEARS 8, 9, 10 AND 12.

The Brilliant Club aims to make highly selective universities more accessible to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programme targets Pupil Premium students, students whose parents did not attend University and students from disadvantaged areas as well as students who are enthusiastic and wish to stretch and develop their confidence and academic skills.

The programme places PhD students in schools to deliver University style courses that help students develop the skills they need to secure places at University.

Students who have taken part in the programme have said, “I feel more prepared and excited about University. The programme has really increased my confidence in my writing skills and the structure of the programme has made feel more resilient and independent.”

Feedback from the programme tutors has been overwhelmingly positive. “The quality of work from the students on the course has been outstanding; in many cases, higher than some of my undergraduate students. I am delighted to have nominated two students from Southgate School to have their work in The Scholar - an academic journal of excellent assignments.”

Information about taking part in the programme is shared with students during assemblies by the Enrichment Co-ordinator. We are committed in enhancing the life chances and opportunities of all students at Southgate School.
