PE

IN physical education, we aim TO CREATE A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF, WHERE TOGETHER WE STRIVE TO LEARN AND IMPROVE. IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, ACHIEVEMENT AND PROGRESS IS MEASURED, MONITORED AND CELEBRATED.

We have a spiral core curriculum where we revisit activities and introduce skills of increasing complexity.

KS3

Students are taught to:

  • use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games in sports such as basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and tennis.
  • develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports such as for example, athletics, gymnastics & trampolining.
  • analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
  • take part in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs.

KS 4

Students are taught to:

  • use and develop a variety of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in team and individual games such as basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and tennis.
  • develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports such as athletics, gymnastics & trampolining.
  • evaluate their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement across a range of physical activities to achieve their personal best.
  • continue to take part regularly in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs.

GCSE

Through the delivery of this course, students are encouraged to:  

  • develop knowledge, understanding, skills and values to develop and maintain their performance in physical activities and understand the benefits to health, fitness and well-being.
  • develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance.
  • understand how the physiological and psychological state affects performance in physical activity and sport.
  • perform effectively in different physical activities by developing skills and techniques and selecting and using tactics, strategies and/or compositional ideas.
  • develop their ability to analyse and evaluate to improve performance in physical activity and sport.
  • understand the contribution which physical activity and sport make to health, fitness and well-being.
  • understand key socio-cultural influences which can affect people’s involvement in physical activity and sport.
  • be inspired, motivated and challenged, and make informed decisions about further learning opportunities and career pathways.

BTEC Level 2

Through the delivery of this course, students are encouraged to develop their:  

  • cognitive and problem-solving skills: use critical thinking, approach non-routine problems applying expert and creative solutions, using systems and technology.
  • interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation.
  • personal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.

Transferable skills developed include:

  • the ability to learn independently
  • the ability to research actively and methodically
  • being able to give presentations and being active group members.

 

A LEVEL

Through the delivery of this course, students are encouraged to:  

  • develop theoretical knowledge and understanding of the factors that underpin physical activity and sport and use this knowledge to improve performance

  • understand the key socio-cultural factors that influence people's involvement in physical activity and sport
  • understand the role of technology in physical activity and sport
  • refine their ability to perform effectively in physical activity and sport by developing skills and techniques and selecting and using tactics, strategies and/or compositional ideas
  • develop their ability to analyse and evaluate to improve performance
  • understand the contribution which physical activity makes to health and fitness
  • improve as effective and independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers with curious and enquiring minds.

BTEC Level 3

Through the delivery of this course students are encouraged to develop their:

BTEC Nationals provide a vocational context in which learners can develop the knowledge and skills required for particular degree courses, including:

• reading technical texts

• effective writing

• analytical skills

• preparation for assessment methods used in degrees.
