East Barnet Art Festival Competition
Posted on: July 11th 2018The annual East Barnet Festival took place over the past weekend in Oak Hill Park. This year for the first time we held a schools' art competition which for the secondary level is being displayed in the club house of the Pitch and Putt club at the Parkside Drive end of the park.
The competition judged by Jordan Mouzouris, an accomplished local artist with a first class degree from St Martins College, Central London who isI currently studying for a Masters degree at Goldsmiths.
Secondary First Prize - Michael Terreehorst Year 7 Southgate School
This piece stood out because of its attention to detail and emphasis on the medium of drawing. Considered mark making with contrasting tones and sketching techniques bring this landscape to life. Well done.
Secondary Second Prize - Carmel Gayle Year 8 Ashmole
A good use of colour and considered composition with an impressionist influence. The dabbing technique creates an element of vivid abstraction. Well done.
Secondary Third Prize - Charlotte Ward Year 9 Southgate
A detailed landscape with areas of interesting colour blending and an all around technically well-composed piece. Well done.
Primary First Prize - Ljubi Sihri-Jovanovich Y6 and Ketusah Strange Year 6 Monkfrith
Great attention to detail has been given to this piece using a mix media approach. The use of textiles and collage on paper creates an interesting contrast with four bold colours. There is also a well considered element of architecture within this piece of work. Well done.
Primary Second Prize - Andrea Kokkinos andLavenya Manodheeran Year 6 Monkfrith
Colourful and inventive collage that has a great painterly effect. The contrasting tones of colour make this work particularly stand out, it also captures the season through colour and collage. Well done.
Joint Third Prize - Clara Barnes-Watson Year 4 Danegrove
A good technical composition with great animal illustrations and subtle water colour blending in the trees. This piece captures the atmosphere of the park. Well done.
Finlay Woodland Year 4 Danegrove
Vivid colours with lively mark making. This work is very well produced and I particularly like the aspect of the painter painting in the park which creates an interesting narrative. Well done
