A Level Art Exhibition

ART SHOW - 18 ESCAPES

Southgate School 6th Form Art students have been inspired by the theme 'Mental Health’ to create this exhibition. The aim follows on from the success of last year’s exhibition here at North Middlesex University Hospital, to continue strengthening links within the wider community. This is the local hospital for many of the students their families and friends, and so a deep sense of appreciation towards the staff and resources is felt.

Consideration of emotional and mental health and the importance of ‘wellbeing’ were discussed when making the work. The students have a clear insight into the huge pressures young people feel under in today’s society and the impact this has on their health but also the needs of older generations, some who are isolated and lonely.

Responding to this challenge independently they have realised a breadth of work, ranging from figurative to abstraction and symbolism. Mixed media, mono-prints, expressive faces, suburban buildings and symbolic fruit reflect the students’ own personal understanding of mental health and wellbeing.

Special thanks to:

North Middlesex University Hospital for constant support, guidance and enthusiasm.

Southgate School PTA for Funding and Sponsorship.
