Government & Politics Trip to Parliament

Posted on: February 10th 2016

Parl20 students went to visit the Houses of Parliament as part of their AS course. They had the opportunity to explore the House of Commons, House of Lords as well as the Queens robe room where she prepares herself for the state opening of Parliament. Their teacher constantly reminds students about Parliament being imbued in both history and tradition – they really understood what this meant after the trip. This was then followed by a Q&A provided by David Burrowes MP. He spoke to the students about his background; highlighting that as a young man he grew more and more interested in Politics which led a career he is so passionate about. Mr Burrowes then arranged for the students to hear a debate in the Houses of Commons, which the students relished. Sian Young said ‘I particularly enjoyed seeing the Speaker, John Bercow lead the debate; it made his role come to life in mParliemanty mind.’ A thoroughly enjoyable day had by all – all polished off with a traditional ‘Southgate Selfie’.
