Southgate School welcomes a Very Important Guest!

Posted on: June 19th 2016

The Government has created eight regions across England which are overseen by eight people known as Regional Schools Commissioners. They are extremely important and influential people. Their powers are devolved from the Secretary of State and include allowing schools to convert to be academies and sending warning notices if academies perform below expectation.

Southgate School is in the North West and South Central England Region and our Regional Schools Commissioner is Martin Post. On Tuesday 14th June, he and his team had a planning day at Southgate School and our Headteacher Martin Lavelle, was asked to give a presentation to them about becoming a Multi Academy Trust. This visit is something of a coup for our school as it is a vote of confidence in what we are doing and in the ambition that we have for Southgate School.

Members of Martin Posts’ team were escorted to their venue and to lunch by our students and all of them commented spontaneously on what wonderful young people we have at our school, how polite and friendly they are. We already know this of course, but it is always good to hear people outside of our community recognise some of the qualities of our students.
