We aim to achieve a seamless handover from Transition (Years 7 & 8) to Pathways (Years 9, 10 & 11) as we recognise that this plays a key part in the future happiness and success of the students. To facilitate this, the Pathways team liaises closely with the Transition team to ensure that information on every student is disseminated to the new team.
In Pathways, students follow a varied and stimulating curriculum. Through rigorous monitoring we track the progress and achievements of all students to ensure that they continue to thrive in all areas of school life.
Year 9 is a challenging year with the main focus being on GCSE subject choices. Planning for this starts early in order that students and parents can make informed decisions when considering which subjects to choose. We offer a wide range of GCSE subjects as well as Applied vocational courses.
The emphasis for Years 10 and 11 is focussed on supporting students to reach their full potential in their GCSEs. This is a time where a strong partnership between home and school is crucial and we value the support we receive from parents.
As part of the Pathways curriculum, all students in Year 10 participate in two weeks work experience. We believe that work experience presents a challenge for young people to extend their knowledge, skills attitudes and understanding in the adult working world, helping them prepare for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life.
In Year 11 all students are interviewed to discuss their options after GCSEs. Planning starts early and with our guidance, students choose which courses would be best for them. We ensure that all students are supported and have the information needed to make the best choice for them.
The majority of our students apply to stay on to study in our Sixth Form
