Upstage in Partnership with ChickenshedPosted on: April 28th 2017
The fourth performance in the project has now taken place. A mixed group of GCSE, A level and incoming GCSE drama students went to see a fabulous production of Lemn Sissay’s adaptation of “Refugee Boy”. It was a powerful and moving story of the difficulties faced by a young man fleeing war and trying to make a new life in London; a very apt subject for us all to reflect on in the current situation of our world.
The students enjoyed the play enormously and we received these lovely comments about our students from the theatre staff – “Thought you might like to hear that there was hugely positive feedback from the FOH team about the exemplary behaviour of your students - they were a credit to themselves and the school!”
So far the Upstage project has been a resounding success giving access to theatre experiences at no cost to a significant number of students….
Approximately: 245 free theatre seats for shows,90 workshop attendances, good links with Chickenshed’s BA students and two school visits from Artistic Director Lou Stein and actor Rob Crouch.
We anticipate more workshops and perhaps visits to the theatre later this term so watch this space!
We are very grateful to all those at Chickenshed who have made this amazing partnership so fruitful and look forward to developing the project in the next academic year.
