Mix It Up Day

Posted on: October 12th 2016

On the 31st October Southgate School is participating in Mix-It Up Day.

Southgate School is the only school in the United Kingdom taking part in this event.

We will be joining thousands of other schools in Canada and the United States participating in a tradition with a 14-year track record of reducing prejudice and improving intergroup relations.

Students in year 7 and 8 will be encouraged to sit with someone new at lunch break and during lessons.

It is a simple concept, but it can have a profound impact; research has shown that positive interactions can reduce bias and prejudice. Mix It Up Day also raises student awareness about divisions within schools and encourages students to interact with people outside their normal social circles.
